Cattle

Cattle and Wagyu

Brampton Agriculture’s cattle approach brings together the animal, the country and the intended market. Wagyu is part of our agricultural focus, alongside the practical decisions that support a sound cattle enterprise.

Breed alone does not determine the result. Feed, health, handling, season and market requirements all matter.

The system

A production system suited to the property

A breeding or growing enterprise needs to fit the feed the property can supply and the infrastructure available. We consider pasture, stock water, handling facilities and seasonal variability when assessing a production system.

The aim is cattle that perform within a system the property can sustain.

Breeding

Breeding and management decisions

Breeding objectives need to reflect the intended production pathway. Fertility, growth, animal health and suitability to the environment are important alongside the characteristics valued by the eventual buyer.

Management must support those objectives through appropriate nutrition, handling and records.

Nutrition

Nutrition and growing cattle

Growing cattle means matching nutritional needs to available feed. Decisions about pasture, forage and supplementary feeding need to account for the stage of production, seasonal conditions and costs.

We assess the whole pathway, including the requirements cattle need to meet at sale.

Welfare

Welfare, handling and records

Animal welfare is part of good cattle management. Our approach places importance on access to suitable feed and water, appropriate animal-health care and considered handling.

Records support livestock decisions and the traceability requirements of the production pathway.

Questions

Questions about our cattle approach

Does Brampton Agriculture focus on Wagyu?
Wagyu is part of Brampton's agricultural focus. Our broader approach is to match cattle production to the property, available feed and market requirements.
What is cattle backgrounding?
Backgrounding is the stage of growing cattle between weaning and a later production or finishing stage. The feed system, growth objectives and sale specifications depend on the cattle and the intended pathway.
Can I enquire about livestock?
Yes. Contact Brampton with the cattle type, approximate numbers, location and timing. The team can advise whether the enquiry is relevant to its current activities.
